Admissions Criteria
Determining where to receive treatment is an important choice. At North Port Behavioral Health, we are committed to providing the care you need when you need it most.
Our general admissions criteria include:
- Age: We accept individuals age 13 and older.
- Diagnosis: A mental health diagnosis is required for admission. We can also treat people who have addictions, as long as mental health is the primary concern. In other words, someone who is struggling with bipolar disorder and a co-occurring substance use disorder would receive a mental health-focused treatment plan, with addiction recovery strategies incorporated.
All admissions decisions are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Admissions Process
Our admissions process consists of a few simple steps:
- Contact us: You can begin the admissions process by calling us directly or by visiting our North Port hospital in person. One of our intake specialists will gather some basic information to verify that you meet our admissions criteria.
- In-person assessment: Next, you’ll work with a team member to complete an in-person assessment. This part of the process is crucial because it allows us to gain a clearer picture of your background and current symptoms. Based on this assessment, our team will develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses your distinct needs.
- Paperwork and consent: During the intake process, we’ll ask you to review and sign some important forms related to consent, privacy, and authorization. If anything is unclear while you’re filling out this paperwork, we encourage you to ask a staff member for clarification.
- Personal belongings check: For safety reasons, we’ll check all your personal items and secure anything that may not be permitted during your stay.
- Room assignment and orientation: Once the intake process is complete, we’ll give you a tour of the unit where you’ll be staying, introduce you to your care team, and assign you a room based on availability and clinical considerations. A member of our nursing staff will help you get settled.
